Here is Jim Shore's black lab, which he calls Duke. I also included a picture of my black lab Gabriel since he tells me he demands equal time to the chihuahuas!! But getting back to the item of the day ... i just love this piece. Its so difficult to work or paint with the color black. But Jim has managed to use his trademark detailing to subtly accent and bring out depth in the labs coat. I also love the unusual way he has decorated the base with bright true colors, but without drawing attention away from the main subject. If you have a black lab or just love this super loyal breed (Gabe is not the biggest dog at my place, that is Knight, but if someone was hurting me, Gabe is the one who would lay his life down to protect me. ) then this piece will make you happy every time you look at it. At just $28.00, it will grace your home or office for years to come.

We have Wind Chimes!!!

We now have wind chimes in the store.  We have both metal and acrylic chimes.  We have chimes that are accented with hummingbirds, blue jays, cardinals and other birds, as well as dragonflies, butterflies and more. I especially love the memorial wind chimes.  I can just imagine that each time the chimes ring my dear little Parker's spirit has just brushed by.  It's as if he's right there.  I really like that.  The other example here is an acrylic dragonfly chime.  Its so pretty and dainty, i can totally see it in a guest powder room or in a little girls room, or for that matter on a stylish lanai.  Our wind chimes range in price from about $15 to $20 dollars.

WIllie's Journey

1/20/2016

I got a plea from the Broward shelter to help a little unnamed 8 pound terrier who was so terrified that no one could touch him.  He had bitten a shelter employee and would certainly not be given much time pas the quarantine period.  Being fairly full, I wasn't crazy about the idea but I couldn't let him die without a chance, so I agreed to take him.  My friends in Miami named him Willie.  Willie was transported to Elfie's Refuge but a group of volunteers, each driving for about an hour before passing him on to the next driver.  Because he was baring his teeth at everyone, he could not be taken out of the crate on his way here.

I moved him directly from the crate to a playpen in our kitchen.  At first Willie would not eat and he certainly wasn't going to let anyone touch him.  He would lurch at you with mouth open and teeth showing if you got too close.  So I just sat with him on the outside of the playpen and talked to him for about an hour every time.  I let him see my hands while I talked to him and ran them along the outside of the playpen.  After a day or so he started eating a little.  He was so thin, he just had to be hungry!!!  He wasn't as scared when I put his food and water in the playpen for him, or cleaned up and gave him new bedding.  Slowly, I could tell it was making a difference.

On Christmas morning I came out to find that Willie had jumped out of the playpen and was loose in the kitchen.  I sat down on the floor and and spoke to him and he inched closer.  Finally he let me touch his head and gently pat him.  It was his beautiful Christmas present to me.  By the end of the day he was sitting in my lap.  Willie was mine, or rather, he had chosen me.

Now its a month later.  Willie sleeps in my arms, he screams with excitement when I come home and throws himself into my arms.  I bought him his own special collar.  He's not scared anymore.

Willie had a long journey, but now he's home for good.

Here we have Tweeter's pick of the day.  She has selected the Swiss Cheese Fairie from the Kitchen Fairie collection.  Of course Tweeter has impeccable taste!!!   And who wouldn't love this little pixie, cutting the holes into a block of cheese!   You can see the hole cutouts lying at her feet.  I just love her expression too.  If you follow our posts you probably already know that this is a retired collection and hard to find.  We have them at 25% off although it might make more sense to price at a premium.  This fairie retails for just $25.00, making the price to you just $18.75.

Introducing the Paw Prints from Heaven collection.  Each piece shows a different chihuahua sleeping in the wings of an angel.  Most of us have a treasured companion waiting for us at the other side of the rainbow bridge.  If you are like me, you have a little memory corner set aside for that special friend.  In my case, it is for my Parker, pictured above.  What a nice addition to your memories.  Its hard to see in the pictures but the angel wings glisten, and the feathers are so beautifully detailed.  These are numbered, limited addition pieces and retail for just $29.99.  Parker's memory certainly deserves one of these.  Your probably feel the same way about your special dog.

This is Sweetheart, of the Trail of the Painted Ponies. This piece happens to be one of my personal favorites. As beautiful as the pictures are, they don't even do it justice. What a special gift to tell someone you love them. This piece is so detailed, from the hearts on his hoofs, to the chain and heart pendant around his neck, to the intricate pattern of gold and hearts over his body. Its the kind of thing where you will see something new each time you look. This magnificent piece is only $44.00. Its a first edition numbered piece from 2010, and is a retired, hard to find piece. If you love it, grab it while you can.

Our deck is getting a facelift too!

So we had the deck power washed and they are in the process of staining it now.  This is so very necessary when you have a bunch of little characters who think that anything outside is "outside", so my poor deck is anointed regularly.  To keep it up and nice for them, it has to be regularly done.  I tried power washing it myself this spring, and it took me days to do, but the professionals finish up in hours.  Hopefully the staining will protect it for a few years anyway.

This beautiful boxer is Lady, by Jim Shore. She's quite the majestic girl with her snowy white chest and socks and sharp dark eyes. I love the way she's standing at alert and her beautiful build with the deep chest and narrow waist. And of course Jim has included all of his trademark patterning and beautifully decorated base that mark this piece as one of his own. This is a wonderful piece for home or office whether you own a boxer or not. At just $20.00 its a very affordable piece and one to have for many years to come.

Renovations underway ... human beware the chaos!!!!

1/12/2016

The image on the right is our old playroom when we first had the floor and walls done, and just bought the dogs furniture.  Its hard to believe how much wear there has been in the last four years.  My little angels have managed to destroy the furniture, starting with the cushions and then working on the frame!!!  And how they were able to destroy the floor, I will never know.  But believe me, it does not look like that nice picture anymore.

But soon it will have a wonderful new facelift!

As you can see we have new tile flooring going down.  Its that plank style flooring that looks like wood, but is durable ceramic tile.  And we've purchased some new pet cots.  We will be having one wall covered in indestructible tile that resembles stonework too.  Now, I know my angels will probably work their magic on this upgrade over time too, but hopefully it will last a long time.  I'll be posting follow up pictures when the room is done.  Let me know what you think!!!

Of course doing construction means having strange humans in the house, and dog sleeping in different places and artificial barriers being put up, and you can just imagine the chaos.  Not so much for the dogs -- barking at the workers is fun!!!!  But the humans do take a toll.  Oh well, its going to be worth it!
